How it works
How to use this business days calculator
- Choose a start date and an end date.
- Leave Holiday set on None, or choose US Federal Holidays 2026 (KE 1.0).
- Read inclusive weekdays, elapsed business days, weekends excluded, and weekday holidays excluded.
Formula
The calculation formula
Business days = weekdays in the range that are not in the selected holiday setWalk every UTC calendar day from the earlier date through the later date.
Drop Saturday and Sunday.
If a holiday set is selected, also drop those weekday dates. The default set is none.
Worked examples
Example calculations
1 July 2026 (Wednesday) through 27 July 2026 (Monday) includes 19 weekdays and 8 weekend days. No holiday set is applied unless you choose one.
The same span with US Federal Holidays 2026 (KE 1.0) excludes Friday 3 July (Independence Day observed) and reports 18 inclusive business days.
When to use it
Common use cases
- Count working days on a contract
- See elapsed business days after the start date
- Apply US federal holidays for 2026 only when you choose that set
Limits
Assumptions and limits
- Saturday and Sunday are never business days.
- Holiday set default is none. Holidays are never applied unless you select a versioned set.
- US Federal Holidays 2026 (KE 1.0) uses OPM observed dates for calendar year 2026 only, including Independence Day observed on Friday 3 July.
- Dates outside 2026 still drop weekends; the 2026 set does not invent holidays for other years.
- Inclusive counts both ends. Elapsed excludes the start date you entered.
- Dates are UTC calendar dates. Regional or company holidays are not included.
Questions
Frequently asked questions
Are holidays excluded by default?
No. The default holiday set is none. Choose US Federal Holidays 2026 (KE 1.0) only when you want that published list.
How is this different from Date Difference?
Date Difference counts every calendar day. Business Days skip Saturday and Sunday, and can skip a named holiday set.
What if my range is not in 2026?
Weekends are still removed. The 2026 federal list does not apply to other years, and the result note says so.
